We often get asked about how to make a garden room soundproof, whether it's to block out noise from the outside or to prevent noise from escaping, like when you're jamming out on a musical instrument or watching movies in your home cinema room.
Luckily, one of our lead designers knows a lot about this and is here to help! There are different options to choose from depending on how far you want to go with soundproofing.
For starters, sound-damping plasterboard can help muffle the noise and is great for blocking out traffic sounds. If you want something more mid-level, you can upgrade to a 15mm sound-dampening plasterboard. Or, if you want to go all out, you can opt for something like a Soundbloc plasterboard, resilient bars, top hats, and a rubber seal for more effective soundproofing.
The resilient bars create a gap that stops vibrations from travelling through the building, and the rubber seal prevents sound from travelling through the fixings. The size of the sound block can vary from 25mm to 100mm, depending on your budget and how much noise you want to block out. It's worth keeping in mind that while you'll gain soundproofing, you may lose a little in insulation and space depending on how thick the wall ends up being.
Keep in mind that some noise may still escape through the door, so a single door is a good idea. Costs start from £300 to around £1,500 plus VAT depending on how thick you want the plasterboard to be.
