Why Berkshire homeowners choose My Retreat

At My Retreat, we design and build bespoke garden rooms for homeowners in Berkshire that feel like a natural extension of your home — not a temporary structure at the bottom of the garden. Every space is tailored to you: from the foundations up, the cladding, the doors and windows, the plastered interior and every fitting in between.

From the first phone call to the day we hand over the keys, you deal with one person: Kieron. No account managers, no lost handovers, no surprises on the invoice.

We regularly build across Berkshire — including Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Sunningdale, Bray, Burnham and Slough.

Concrete pile or ground screw foundations

Plastic tubes filled with concrete driven 50–60cm in, or ground screws — both assessed per site. No full slab, no unnecessary disruption.

Structural steel floor frame

The feature that genuinely sets us apart. A fabricated steel frame — not timber — that will never rot, bow or fail under load.

Plastered interiors as standard

A full skim-plaster finish — exactly like the interior walls of your home.

No hidden extras

Foundations, electrics, heating, flooring and lighting are all in the quote.

Common Questions

Garden room FAQs — Berkshire

How much does a garden room cost in Berkshire?
Fully insulated garden rooms from My Retreat start from £18,376 installed including VAT. Final cost for a Berkshire project depends on size, cladding, door and window specification, and any extras such as a bathroom or air conditioning. We provide fully itemised quotes — no surprises. Use our 3D tool for an instant estimate.
Do I need planning permission for a garden room in Berkshire?
Most garden rooms in Berkshire fall under Permitted Development and don’t need planning permission. Exceptions include conservation areas, listed buildings and rooms used as separate living accommodation. Planning responsibility is yours as the homeowner — we can refer you to a trusted architect who can advise for a fee.
Can I use a garden room all year round?
Yes — if it is built properly. All My Retreat rooms include fully insulated walls, floors and roofs, a structural steel floor frame, double-glazed UPVC windows and heating as standard. They are comfortable year-round as home offices, gyms, studios or additional living space.
How long does it take to build a garden room?
From deposit to installation is typically 4–5 weeks. On-site, the build takes 2–3 weeks. Additional time may be needed for bathrooms or landscaping. We confirm a clear timeline before any work begins and Kieron personally oversees every project.
What foundations do you use?
Concrete pile foundations — plastic tubes filled with concrete, driven 50–60cm into the ground. Stable, clean, and avoids the disruption and cost of a full concrete slab. We assess every site individually before confirming the approach.
Do garden rooms add value to your home?
In most cases, yes. A fully insulated, properly built garden room increases usable square footage, adds buyer appeal and is increasingly recognised by estate agents as a premium feature — especially across Berkshire.
